gluten free donuts with icing

gluten free donuts with icing

last updated on October 30, 2026

I recently got a request from a follower to make gluten free donuts with icing, and here they are! I wasn’t sure how they would turn out, but I am actually obsessed with them. They are soft and yummy and adorable.

These donuts are not just good for being gluten free, they are just good! Everyone that tried them didn’t even know they were gluten free, which feels like a big victory. Plus they are vegan! Yay!

If you are not celiac or do not have gluten free flour, you can substitute with all-purpose flour! Same measurement.

what is in gluten free donuts with icing?

  • gluten free flour
  • baking powder
  • cinnamon
  • salt
  • apple sauce
  • brown sugar
  • milk (i use almond, but any will work)
  • oil (olive oil or vegetable oil)
  • maple syrup

Also, here is a key to these donuts — don’t over mix the batter! When you add the dry ingredients, mix until they’re just combined and there are no more clumps. And if you don’t have a piping bag, a Ziploc bag works perfectly! Just cut a hole in the corner and you are good to go, plus it makes for easy clean up!

products i use for this recipe

  • mini donut pan — I not only use one for this recipe, but for all my donut recipes!
  • king arthur gf flour — Even though this is the “wheat flour,” it tastes great in these donuts!

Ingredients

donuts

  • 1 1/4 cup gluten free flour (i use King Arthur gf wheat flour)
  • 2 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup apple sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk (i use almond)
  • 1/3 cup oil olive or vegetable
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup

icing

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk (i use almond)
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375. Combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl. In a larger bowl, combine the apple sauce, brown sugar, milk, oil, and maple syrup. Mix until it is well combined.
  2. Add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix until just combined, until there are no clumps remaining. Don't over mix here!
  3. Pour the batter into a large ziplock bag (or piping bag) and cut a hole in the corner. Pipe the batter into a greased mini donut pan.
  4. Bake the donuts for 8-10 minutes, until you poke the top and it doesn’t jiggle. (i used a mini donut pan, so if your pan is regular sized, they will need a longer cook time)
  5. While the donuts are baking, make the icing. Combine all three ingredients in a bowl and whisk until the icing is smooth, with no clumps. Dip the donuts in and enjoy!

because why choose one when you can have both?? here is the recipe for both:

caramel coconut:
- 1 Quaker® caramel rice cake
- 1 teaspoon hazelnut butter
- 3 dates

- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla paste
- pinch of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon hot water
- 2 tablespoons chocolate chips
- 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil
- flaky salt
add the dates, coconut, vanilla paste, and salt to a food processor. blend until the dates start to break down, then add the hot water and blend until a paste forms. set aside. place the chocolate chips and coconut oil in a bowl and microwave at 15 second intervals, stirring between each, until melted and smooth. top the Quaker® caramel rice cake with the hazelnut butter, the coconut date mixture, and drizzle with chocolate. top with flaky salt then transfer to the fridge to set up for about 10 minutes. enjoy!

- 1 Quaker® lightly salted rice cake
