the perfect blt

the perfect blt

last updated on October 29, 2026

I’m sorry but after one bite of this blt I knew it was the perfect blt. It all starts with soft bread that has been beautifully toasted, then a thick layer of garlic basil mayo, lots of brown sugar bacon, a thick slice of tomato, and fresh lettuce. It is perfect for summer and I can’t wait for you to try it!

All growing up my parents had tomato plants in the backyard and all summer long we would sling blt’s like there was no tomorrow. There is not much better in this world then a fresh, fresh tomato. And when you pair it with bread and bacon its unstoppable.

Ingredients

garlic basil mayo

  • 1 cup fresh basil
  • 1/3 cup mayo
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • zest of one lemon
  • 1 garlic clove
  • salt, to taste

blt

  • 1/2 lb bacon
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • black pepper, to taste
  • 1 large tomato
  • 4 large pieces of lettuce
  • 4 bread slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400F. Line a baking sheet with tin foil or parchment paper. Lay the bacon strips on the pan. Sprinkle half of the brown sugar and black pepper on the bacon. Use your hands to rub it evenly over each piece. Turn all the pieces over and repeat on the other side.
  2. Transfer the bacon to the oven and bake for 10-20 minutes, until the bacon is your desired level of crispy.
  3. While the bacon cooks, make the garlic basil mayo. Add all the ingredients (basil, mayo, lemon juice and zest, garlic, and salt) to a food processor or blender. Pulse until smooth. Set aside.
  4. Cut the tomato into thick slices. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and set aside.
  5. Toast each piece of bread (optional).
  6. To assemble, add a heaping tablespoon of the garlic basil mayo to each slice of bread. Add bacon, tomato, and lettuce. Sandwich together and enjoy!

This is the most heavenly BLT ever. I’m not a huge mayo fan but this sauce really makes it. The brown sugar bacon is delicious and everything just goes so well together. I’ve literally made it 5 times this week.
