cinnamon fry bread

Hello my friends we are back with another Crumbl copycat and today we are making copycat Crumbl cinnamon fry bread cookies! Crumbl has introduced a lot of new flavors recently and in my opinion this cinnamon fry bread cookie is by far the best! it is soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside and has all the best flavors. And my recreation is just as good as the original!

what is a cinnamon fry bread cookie?

I had to do a little investigating to learn exactly what went into Crumbl’s cinnamon fry bread cookie. After a little digging I figured out the following:

  • The dough for this cookie is the same dough as Crumbl’s waffle cookie! I released a copycat Crumbl waffle cookie last week, so the dough for this cookie is the same recipe as that copycat.
  • Before the dough is baked, each dough ball is drizzled with sweetened condensed milk. This gives the cookie a nice crunch on top!
  • Right after the cookies come out of the oven, each is brushed with melted butter. This step is so important and gives the cookies a needed buttery flavor that really adds to the fry bread feel.
  • Each cookie is topped with a scoop of cinnamon honey butter! This is essential as it is what makes this cookie a cinnamon fry bread cookie. And it is just so yummy so there’s no way you’ll want to skip it.

faqs:

  1. What can I use instead of shortening?  If you can’t find shortening, you can use butter instead. So instead of using 1 cup of shortening and 1/2 cup of butter, just use 1 1/2 cups of butter instead.
  2. How do I store these cookies? If you are not eating all the cookies warm, I recommend storing the cookies without the frosting on. This will keep the cookies fresh and not soggy. Keep the cookies in a sealable container. Also keep the frosting in a sealable container.

[COOK] 15 minutes

Ingredients

cinnamon fry bread cookie base

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt

topping

  • 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 tbsp butter melted

cinnamon honey buttercream

  • 1/2 cup butter room temp
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350. Add the shortening, butter, and brown sugar to a stand mixer. Mix for 2 minutes. Add eggs and mix until just combined.
  2. Add flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt. Mix until dough just comes together.
  3. If making large, Crumbl style cookies, scoop out 1/2 cup of dough per cookie. You can fit 5-6 cookies on a normal cookie sheet. Roll each cookie into a ball. Split the ball in half and push it back together again, with one of the "rough" split sides on top. This will add texture to our cookie when it's cooked.
  4. Drizzle about 1 tsp of sweetened condensed milk onto the top of each cookie. Try not to let the sweetened condensed milk spill off of the cookie as it will burn. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, until cookies are just set.
  5. When the cookies come out of the oven, brush melted butter onto each cookie while they are still warm.
  6. While the cookies cool slightly, make the frosting. Add butter, honey, and cinnamon to a stand mixer. Mix for 2-3 minutes until smooth. Add powdered sugar and vanilla and mix again.
  7. Top each warm cookie with a scoop of frosting and enjoy!

Followed the recipe to a T… and ended up with cookies that spread so much they covered my entire baking sheet ? flavor is 10/10, but oh my goodness are they a mess.

Hmm, that’s so strange. I’ve had other people reach out saying the cookies turned out perfect. Was your dough really sticky? I’d love to figure out what happened! Sometimes elevation can effect how much flour you need. I’m sorry they turned out poorly.

The cookie was delicious after the first bite however by the time I reached the 3rd bite, the sugar hit me hard and I couldn’t go on..just way too sweet. Great recipe bit I’m.going to cut back the brown sugar next time by half a cup.at the least

Hey! Yes, the cookie is definitely very sweet. I was trying to match Crumbl’s which is very rich! You are more than welcome to adjust the sugar, but know that changing quantities will cause the ratios of the cookie to be slightly off and the consistency likely won’t be the same.

I’m wondering why you’d rate this 3 stars when your sugar issues are clearly your own and nothing to do with the recipe. I appreciate the effort the author put into making this recipe available. Poor choice on your part when you need to blame perhaps yourself for eating the sugar rather than the author.

I had the same issue. I followed the recipe and the cookies had sooo much spread ?

Did you melt the butter? That would cause the cookies to spread like you described. You should bring butter to room temperature and cream it, do not melt it!

      1. thepalatablelife

yes, this is a great point! the butter should not be melted. sorry this wasn’t made clear in the recipe!

Definitely delicious! But mine needed way more time in the oven… 10-12 min = STILL DOUGH. I know that’s the style of Crumbl but it was a bit too doughy/uncooked for me. And they are SO sugary!!! It’s a lot haha again, that’s the style of Crumbl, but it’s an overload for sure. Definitely will be sharing all of these with others, can’t keep them around our house!

Hi! Yes, sometimes cook time can vary a lot, so I’m glad you found a time that worked better for your oven. And yes, the sugary aspect is definitely a Crumbl thing! They’re SO rich. But so yum. I hope you enjoyed them!

Made these a few weeks ago and they are DELICIOUS! I definitely went a little heavy with the sweetened condensed milk on the first batch in the oven, but that was on me. I’ve never had a crumbl cookie, but these are DIVINE! Making them again this weekend!

These cookies were delicious. I just did the icing in a small ball on top like crumble doee and they were perfect. Do you think they would freeze well before I put the icing on them

My mom had a ‘honey’ themed bookclub night where every member had to bring a dish with honey in it. I have been following your page for a while and knew that we had to make these cookies. Mom declared that these qualify for one of the best cookies she has ever had! Huge hit with the bookclub. Everytime I follow a cookie recipe of yours I start to think that I am an amazing baker, but I am pretty sure it’s the recipe. Thank you for sharing your talent!
