Continuing my series “cookies inspired by tv shows and movies,” next up is Loki! The last episode of Loki airs this Wednesday, so these cookies are just in time. Speaking of time, time is what Loki is all about! So, these cookies are hourglass cookies to represent all the crazy storylines and time concepts in Loki.
These cookies are surprisingly easy to make! The dough is a sugar cookie dough that is soft and easy to roll out. After the dough is rolled out, cut the dough into rectangles. Cut an hourglass shape out of each rectangle. To get the hourglass look, we use hard candy! I used Jolly Ranchers, but any hard candy will work. Add the hard candy to a bag, crush it with a rolling pin, then add the broken pieces to the hourglass cutout. I like adding lots of different colors of hard candy, because it all melts together in the oven and gives it a cool warped look.
If you are a Marvel fan, check out my Wandavision red velvet cookies! They are soft and fluffy and are topped with the yummiest cream cheese frosting.

loki hourglass cookies
Ingredients
sugar cookies
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- splash of vanilla
- 2 1/2 – 3 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
hourglass filling
- 10 jolly ranchers or other hard candy
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325. Add the shortening and sugar to a bowl and mix for 2 minutes.
- Add the egg, buttermilk, and vanilla and mix again. Add flour, soda, and salt. Start with 2 1/2 cups of flour. If your dough is really sticky, add 1 tbsp additions until it is no longer sticky. The dough will be very soft and barely not stick to your fingers.
- Roll the dough on a lightly floured surface. Roll into a 12"x18" rectangle. Cut out 2"x3" cookies using a knife or pizza cutter. Using a knife, cut an hourglass shape into the middle of each cookie.
- Unwrap hard candies and add to a Ziploc bag. Crush the candies using a rolling pin or something similar. Add a scoop of the crushed candies to the hourglass cutout of each cookie. The candies should fill the hole, but shouldn't overflow above the dough.
- Bake the cookies for 8-11 minutes, until the cookies spring back. Let the cookies cool completely on the cookie sheet, and be careful to not touch the hot candy.
- Once they are cooled, remove from the cookie sheet and enjoy!
